A GORGEOUS AUTUMN WEDDING

This fall wedding created by Jill La Fleur features the most beautiful natural harvest styling & lots of inspiring details. Granted, most of us aren't so lucky to be living in a place where one could have a sunny outdoor wedding in the fall season, but this styling would work almost equally well in a simple, rustic venue.

Tämän ihanan syksyisen häälookin on luonut Jill La Fleur.

A YELLOW, BLACK & WHITE WEDDING FULL OF PERSONALITY

We love stumbling upon weddings that really bring out the couple's personality. Today we've got the great pleasure to share with you this wedding of Helena, who's writing about her wedding on her blog Morsian Ja Pihatonttu. All pictures are taken by the always great Krista Keltanen.

We're loving the attire of the two of them. A black wedding dress with a sequin cardi, a black & white ombre veil, a large paper flower instead of a traditional bouquet - such a great look! And check out the groom's awesome boutonniere!

Hääparin tyyli on aivan mahtava!

Check out all the details. All decor & designs are made by bride and groom themselves. And yes, they even had a "cheese cake".

Kiinnitä huomiota kaikkii yksityiskohtiin, jotka morsiuspari tekivät itse. Juustokakku on myös oiva idea!

All images by Krista Keltanen.

A COLORFUL COUNTRYSIDE WEDDING: TERHI & JARKKO

Last weekend we headed to Myrskylä in the Finnish countryside to style and furnish the wedding of Terhi & Jarkko. The 160 guest party was held in a traditional country dance hall and the couple wanted it to be fun, inviting and relaxed, yet festive. The whole day we spent setting up together with the couple's family who were all super-nice.

We set the tables with casual floral arrangements in jars and votives on burlap table runners. The main table also had old wood planks set below the centerpieces. The places were set with menus/programs designed by the groom and little simple favor bags that served as place cards. We had ordered the chairs and tables from a trusted supplier. The bride and groom wanted wooden chairs instead of the regular plastic/metal folding chairs or banquet chairs. The old wooden ones worked beautifully with the feel of the venue.

We strung bistro lights and garlands made of colorful fabric scraps along the ceiling and decorated the entryway with a floral garland and clusters of vintage jars, tins and other pieces. The bride's father set up birches along the yard.

During the evening I took pics of guests and the bridal party in the photobooth, which also served as an alternative guest book. The guests wrote messages to the newlyweds on chalkboards and posed with them for the camera. I might add some of the shots here later.

Congratulations again to Terhi & Jarkko. It was a great pleasure to help you with your wedding!

Tilasimme vanhahtavat puiset kalusteet paljon käyttämältämme alihankkijalta.

A ROMANTIC VINTAGE WEDDING: JENNI & CALLE

Jenni was the first bride to contact us after we had established Hey Look last year. Already then she had a very clear picture of what she wanted their wedding to look like: vintage-playful, yet romantic and elegant with Finnish influences as well as American ones. Already at that point she had collected and made a bunch of decor stuff and over the course of the year more and more was added to the list. In the end, the bride and groom contributed two cars full of props, vases, votive glasses and other decor bits and pieces.

On saturday finally the big day had come! The wedding ceremony was held in Porvoo, the reception at Villa Haikko, a beautiful venue by the shore set in the Haikon Kartano park and forest surroundings. The perfect spot for Jenni's & Calle's vintage wedding.

We arrived with two cars full of own props & loads of flowers in the morning, the sun was shining from a bright blue sky. Jenni, Calle and some helpers were already setting up lanterns and signage in the yard of the venue. After the bride & groom headed to get ready for their wedding, we threw ourselves into making floral arrangements and styling the space. 7 hours later, we were ready and the place looked like this. A total of over 100 floral arrangements, more than 150 votive glasses and many many props.

Jenni had wanted her bouquet to be made of soft pink peonies and after some weeks of uncertainty, we did manage to grab the final peonies of the season, yay! The bridesmaid bouquets were made of cream colored florals on a bed of dusty miller greens. The boutonniere for Calle was made from a wee pink carnation, white florals and dusty miller.

The large backyard of Villa Haiko was lined by lanterns set up by Calle and the groomsmen. They also made and set up this lovely Happily Ever After sign. We decorated the steps on the entrance area with large floral arrangements, lanterns, other props and welcome chalkboard signage.

Guests found their seats on a seating chart drawn onto two old windows that the bride had brought to our studio weeks before the wedding. One of our favorite details was the memory shelf we set up from wooden boxes. It contained pictures of the bride & groom, wedding photos of their parents, the story of how Jenni & Calle met from each one's point of view and the very first baby shoes of the couple. What a sweet idea! We folded pages from old books to create the couple's initials and decorated the shelf with flowers, succulents and vintage doilies.

Instead of writing into a guest book, Jenni's and Calle's guests wrote wishes to the newlyweds on little tags and hung them onto a wish tree. Guests could also snap their own pictures in a "photobooth" decorated with old pictures of Jenni and Calle. For the gentlemen we set up a little cigar bar.

We also set up a dessert table with loads of yummies. Labels were made from simple recycled paper decorated with doilies or lace ribbon.

The dinner tables were lined with burlap table runners topped with vintage books, votive jars + loads of floral arrangements in jars and vintage tea and coffee cups. We decorated some of the jars with burlap and lace ribbon to match the votive glasses the bride had made beforehand. Each place was set with a menu card in a pocket folded napkin tied together with package string and a handwritten place card (the bride and her bridesmaids had folded and tied these the previous evening).

Thanks Jenni & Calle for letting us be such a big part in creating your big day! All the best for your start into the new life as a married couple. We're so happy for you!

AN INTIMATE WEDDING: ANNA & ANTTI

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to work with Anna & Antti, a lovely couple who decided to get married only a month earlier. While Lotta had to style a super-chic & modern wedding here in Helsinki, I headed to Järvenpää with my good friend and eager helper Jenni to spend a super-relaxed and lovely day styling and shooting the wedding of Anna & Antti at Vanhankylän Kartano.

Anna had wished for simple, casual florals, a little sweet buffet for their 30 guests and a few hours of photography to capture some details of the day. Her chosen color scheme was pink, blush, white, soft yellow and green which worked beautifully in the venue. We made simple floral centerpieces in glass jars to decorate the venue & dinner tables and set up a little sweets buffet in the same color scheme. I made Anna's bouquet from lush pink & white peonies and pink roses (a combo that always works, don't you think?).

The couple had got married the day before at the Maistraati (would translate to "city hall", probably) already, so they arrived before their guests for some picture taking time. Don't you love Anna's dress and shoes? She looked so radiant with her lovely baby bump!

Taking pictures of the couple, bridal party and the guests was such a breeze. Although the lighting for taking pics was horrible (that kind of before-the-storm weird light that turns everything a greenish-yellow), the couple's family and friends were such relaxed and friendly people that it was simply a great pleasure to be a little part of Anna's and Antti's big day. The staff at the venue too, was super-nice and helpful - so, if you're looking for a little intimate & casual yet festive wedding place around Järvenpää, please consider this one.

And here's a little something by the bride about Hey Look in Finnish:

Thanks, Anna for your sweet words!

Cheers,
Michaela

A PRETTY WEDDING IN SOFT PEACH & GREEN

A week ago we styled a wedding for a lovely Finnish - French couple at Restaurant Saaristo in Helsinki. The couple wanted a simple, pretty setting of florals in whites, peach tones and greens. We created centerpieces in different heights and added votives for some extra cozy atmosphere. The venue itself is so bright and pretty that really no other decor was needed.

The bride, a professional ballroom dancer had created cards with dance styles that served as table "numbers". Such a lovely, personal idea! We made her bouquet of white peonies, soft peach roses and carnations, white fresia and orchids. The bridesmaids bouquets followed the same line with peach colored florals.

Oh, and don't mind the napkin / place card set-ups on the pictures, please – I took the pictures while the restaurant personnel was setting the napkins, so there's a bit of a mixed thing going on in some of the pics.

Stailasimme vajaa kaksi viikkoa sitten ihanat häät suomalais-ranskalaiselle pariskunnalle Ravintola Saaristoon  Helsinkiin.

Morsian on ammattilaistanssija, joten pöydät olivat "numeroitu" tanssityylien mukaisesti - ihana idea!

NEON & WHITE - A SERIOUSLY FUN CORPORATE PARTY

We style corporate events all the time. They are just like weddings & other personal events, only that one works with a brand instead of individual personalities and tastes. The biggest difference is though that the brand guidelines often don't leave a lot of room for fun ideas + customers often decide to "play it safe" and go with tried and tested stuff. Understandable to some extent, but it's also why we often love styling weddings and birthday parties more.

Two weeks ago however, we were lucky enough to be styling a young, fresh and seriously fun corporate event in Helsinki. The client was great to work with and gave us pretty much free hands with everything (within the brand guidelines of course). The venue was the perfect white canvas for pops of neon colors. We did the concept design, the save the date- and invitation designs, event styling & a photobooth.

The response we got was great and our clients were super-happy with everything - it's the best reward we can get really.

More parties like this!
