A DIY HARVEST CENTERPIECE / SADONKORJUU-HENKINEN KUKKA-ASETELMA

This rustic fall harvest centerpiece will give a warm, festive feeling to a cozy dinner or would work perfectly for an autumn wedding or event. You can adjust the flowers and greens to your wishes, pick foliage and florals from your garden or use wild flowers and greens.

We used a selection of foliage, berries, legumes, a large sun flower, red astilbe, orange chrysanthemes and dahlias. If you want to choose your own blooms and greens, make sure you get a good selection of sizes and shapes. Pick a few large flowers and add smaller blooms, choose long flat greenery and pair it with shorter, fuller foliage.

The only tools you need for making the floral centerpiece are a flower sponge and some good scissors or floral clippers. We chose a ready sponge + plastic dish combination, but you can easily choose your own vase, wooden box or even a simple plate and place a floral sponge on top/inside. Make sure you soak the sponge in water for a few minutes beforehand - it needs to be completely full of water.

Aloita asetelman teko pitkillä vihreillä ja täytä sivut muilla lehdillä.

Start with your long, flat greens to create the base of your arrangements. We chose ferns which work particularly well. Then add your other foliage.

Once you have placed all your foliage, you can add the largest flowers or blooms. We used a stem of kale and a sun flower.

Seuraavaksi laita pisimmät vihreät ja kukat asetelman päätyihin.

Next add your longer greens and florals to the sides of the arrangement.

Once you're done with this, you can fill up all the gaps with smaller florals and possibly some additional foliage.

Lopuksi täydennä asetelmasi valitsemilla vihanneksilla toiveidesi mukaan. Tähän tarvitset puutikkuja tai kukka-asetelmiin käytettäviä metallitikkuja. Työnnä tikku vihannekseen ja asettele koriste kukka-asetelmaan. Käytimme retiisiä tuomaan väriä ja kauniin loppusilauksen. Myös pienet päärynät tai omenat toimivat hyvin.

If you want to add some legumes of fruit to your arrangement, you will need some floral wire or wooden skewers. Cut them to the right size, then stick them carefully into your vegetable or fruit - we used radishes - then add them to your centerpiece. You could choose to add small apples or pears or any kind of small root vegetable.

Now check your arrangement from every angle and if necessary add some flowers or foliage to wherever you can see some floral sponge. And you're ready. Now you could place this arrangement on your table to use as a centerpiece by itself.

We wanted to give this an extra rustic touch with a withered wooden board we placed underneath the floral arrangement.

Viimeistele pöytä syksyn sadolla ja tuikuilla – nautinnollista juhlaa!

Next we added some pear, radishes and red & green foliage to the board, finished it all up with some pretty votives and we were done!

ECO-FRIENDLY WEDDING INSPIRATION

Today we styled an event for a local chain of organic & ethic grocery stores and all event styling also had to follow the client company's values. In general we practice a lot of re-purposing and try not to be wasteful with resources, but let's face it: floral arrangements from freshly cut flowers, paper goods, balloons, etc - they all are one-time-use stuff, and yes, it does feel really bad to be throwing things away after using them only once and for a very short time. Today all items we used were either rented, repurposed or bought from charity shops. And that's where the majority of things will go back to after the event. Feels kind of nice.

So, when it comes to weddings & parties: what do you do and can you do to make the event even a bit more eco-friendly? Use personal items in your styling; we love the unique touch that they bring to the look and you'll take them back home where they belong afterwards. Go for cloth napkins instead of paper ones, real cutlery instead of plastic, wood or paper. Check out your local selection of party rentals - you may not have to buy everything, renting is almost always more sustainable. Use jars, cans and other recycled vessels as vases for your flowers. You could even go so far as to invite your guests only by email and set up a kicking wedding website where guests can get all the information. The list of things you can do is almost endless.

We found this eco-friendly wedding inspiration shoot styled by Bow tie + Bustle on Style Me Pretty and love the idea of using only potted plants and wild flowers as centerpieces. After your big day, you can give them to friends and family. Or have them take them home already when they leave from the
venue.

A PRETTY WEDDING IN SOFT PEACH & GREEN

A week ago we styled a wedding for a lovely Finnish - French couple at Restaurant Saaristo in Helsinki. The couple wanted a simple, pretty setting of florals in whites, peach tones and greens. We created centerpieces in different heights and added votives for some extra cozy atmosphere. The venue itself is so bright and pretty that really no other decor was needed.

The bride, a professional ballroom dancer had created cards with dance styles that served as table "numbers". Such a lovely, personal idea! We made her bouquet of white peonies, soft peach roses and carnations, white fresia and orchids. The bridesmaids bouquets followed the same line with peach colored florals.

Oh, and don't mind the napkin / place card set-ups on the pictures, please – I took the pictures while the restaurant personnel was setting the napkins, so there's a bit of a mixed thing going on in some of the pics.

Stailasimme vajaa kaksi viikkoa sitten ihanat häät suomalais-ranskalaiselle pariskunnalle Ravintola Saaristoon  Helsinkiin.

Morsian on ammattilaistanssija, joten pöydät olivat "numeroitu" tanssityylien mukaisesti - ihana idea!

A FINNISH-FILIPINO WEDDING IN HELSINKI

Last friday we had the honor to be part of the wedding day of a lovely couple at Villa Ruusuniemi in Helsinki. We can't thank K & R enough to allow us to style and help organize their big day. It was a wonderful experience and we loved just about everything about it!

The ceremony was held outside in the villa's yard against a beautiful backdrop of the wooded shore of the baltic sea. A view like that didn't call for much embellishment so we decided to make only a flowy white fabric arch for the couple to be married under. And although the day was rather cloudy, the sun came out just as the ceremony started - perfect!

Seremonia pidettiin ulkona meren rannalla. Aurinko tuli juuri esiin ennen seromonian alkamista!

K & R had requested to incorporate both Finnish and Filipino elements into the wedding design and we loved the idea. The tables were set with a burlap runner on white linens, centerpieces from banana leaves, white florals, pretty greens and birch twigs + cylindric glass vases and candles. We drew the table numbers onto fans the groom's mother had brought from the Philippines. We created smaller chalkboard signs from birch slices and larger ones from chalkboard and birch branch frames, the escort cards were held by birch pieces.

Escord -kortit olivat koivun haloissa.

The catering was wonderful, probably one of the best wedding menues we've ever tasted. But the dessert table was simply amazing! Marcelle from Cestoni Gourmet did such a splendid job with the brownies & caramel flan; the yummy macarons and wedding cake were delivered by ph7 bakery. The bride and groom brought in the super-cute Iittala glass bird cake toppers. Don't you just love this idea?

Catering oli aivan mahtava! Yksi parhaimmista hää-menuista, joita olemme ikinä maistaneet. Jälkiruokapöytä oli mahtava! Marcelle Gastoni Gourmelta loihti ihanat browniet ja caramel Flanin. Ihanat macaronsit ja hääkakku olivat Ph7:n käsialaa. Sulhanen ja morsian toivat kakkukoristeeksi ihanat linnut Iittalta.

A big congrats again to K & R! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to create such a lovely day for you.

Suuret onnittelut K & R! Kiitos, että saimme luoda teille ihanan hääjuhlan!

COLOR LOVES - SOFT PINK

Soft pink or blush is probably the most popular wedding color and very often used on its own or paired with whites and neutrals. By itself it creates a romantic, feminine look and it looks great in modern or rustic venues alike.

Images: peonies, macarons, ribbons, ruffle cake, bride & bridesmaids

This is one of our favorite color schemes: blushes & pale pinks combined with soft shades of mint. This palette works perfectly for a vintage inspired setting. Mix in some gold elements for an elegant vintage look or stick to bright whites for a more modern feel.

A very similar, but more quirky color palette: blush & pink + aqua tones. Perfect for a rustic or vintage wedding. Check out this lovely example of a 50's themed wedding on Ruffled.

Another favorite of ours: blush & gold. A super-sweet and feminine color combination. To create an elegant, classical, vintage-inspired feel, use ruffles, tulles, lush and flowing fabrics + rich floral arrangements. To get a more contemporary look, use clear lines, patterned fabrics (striped, chevron, etc)  and simple floral arrangements.

Blacks and dark grays add a bit of a dramatic feel to the blush color palette. Use this color palette for an elegant french inspired soiree or a classic wedding in a historical venue - be sure to check out the image sources for more inspiration

Blush, soft pink and red is such a sweet color palette perfect for weddings, bridal showers and girl's birthday parties. Despite it being a very classic & romantic color palette, you can create a very contemporary look by playing with shapes and materials (check out this inspiration shoot as a perfect example).

COLOR LOVES - MINT

Today's color love feature is all about shades of mint and seafoam. It's such a versatile color that can be used in classical, cute and even preppy event designs. By itself mint is fresh and pretty, but chic at the same time. Pair it with lots of white for an extra fresh look.

[Images: mint building: Madden Photography, wedding cake: Martha Stewart Weddings, polka dot texture: Oilcloth, macarons: sfophoto on flickr, cupcakes: Sprinkle Bakes,  stationery: ]

If you want to go very classic, chic and elegant, pair off-shades of mint and seafoam with gold and neutral tones from cream over blush to beige and light brown. Add some very dark brown tones to give it a more masculin and dramatic touch.

This color palette works beautifully in either rustic environments like barns or in historical spaces with chandeliers, ornate ceilings and white walls.

For a feminine and pretty look, pair shades of bright mint with peach and blush tones. The color combo is perfect for romantic summer weddings, bridal and baby showers. Don't you love how light and airy these colors look together?

If you like it preppier, replace the peach shades with strong coral tones + black and white.
